Bernie Mayer is a Hampton Roads, Va. resident who has performed in rock bands, acoustic trios, duos and as a single performer since the late 60's. He began writing songs in the early 70's. He has performed in Cincinnati, Oxford (Ohio), Louisville, Fort Wayne (Indiana) and the Hampton Roads area. During his college days, he appeared on a radio show at Miami University (Oxford) in 1974 performing some of his own music. Also, in 1976 and then in 1977 he appeared on a public radio show in Cincinnati. Local festivals in which he has performed include Hampton Bay Days, Chesapeake Jubilee, and the Newport News Folk Arts Festivals. Other venues in the Hampton Roads area have included Waterside Main Stage, Mill Point Park, Portside, Jewish Mother, Phillips Waterside, and some military venues.
Gene and Bernie began collaborating in their songwriting efforts in 2020. Both of them had been involved in
volunteer projects before the pandemic, and this new partnership has allowed them to create and distribute
their work without leaving their respective homes. Gene's strongest contribution has been lyric writing while Bernie's strong suit is in arranging and performing their songs.
